Fahrenheit451 and Brave new World have many similarities, some of them are:

· The government manipulated people by don’t letting them think, just being entertained with technology so, they did with the country and society what they wanted and what was convenient for their pleasure, comfort and power.

· Societies, in both books, are superficial and consumerist. For example: Mildred wanted another TV and he had four in her house. She didn’t need one and they were very expensive, she also got a new one two months ago.(Fahrenheit 451); “old clothes are beastly, we always throw away old clothes”.(Brave new world). In both stories physical appearance is valued over intelligence.

· They describe a world which is supposed to be perfect in every aspect of life, all citizens are happy, but it is not so good: people are manipulated, can’t express freely, don’t have emotions, problems, nothing intense.

· Some things are hidden in the government for example books: they were forbidden by the government because for the authorities they weren’t entertaining, didn’t agree one with each other, were complicated and people named in books never lived so it was a waste of time reading them. They use these arguments to convince people not to read them but they were censured because they made people think, elaborate concepts, opinions and to debate them.(Fahrenheit 451); “There were those strange rumours of old forbidden books hidden in a safe in the controller’s study. Bibles, poetry- Ford knew what”. In this book (Brave new world) some books are hidden for the same purpose: the government didn’t allow people to think and know other cultures for instance because they will discover that they can live better and they will protest.

· Citizens are all equal. Being different was a negative thing. For example: Clarisse likes talking, walking, smelling and takes her time to reflect and think so she is discriminated at school and sent to a psychiatric(Fahrenheit 451); Bernard Marx has a bad reputation because he was an intellectual but wasn’t handsome so he was an Alpha+ but before decanting he got alcohol so he’s not physically attractive.

· Ordinary people don’t appreciate nature, only social outcasts do it. For example: “Bernard Marx drew a deep breath. He looked up into the sky and round the blue horizon and finally down into Lenina’s face. Isn’t it beautiful. His voice trembled a little”(Brave new world); when Clarisse taught Montag to see the man in the moon, to smell nature, to taste rain, etc(Fahrenheit 451).

· There are some characters that are very similar. Some of them are Beatty with the director. They have control over the society, give permits to people, are like inspectors that control that everyone do what they are supposed to. They also have a years of experience.

I think that in the case of fahrenheit the society seems to be superficial and that inside of it every peolple were equal. But then we realice that also exist people that reed books and have knowledge. Montag change in the book is very important,at first he was a member of the society and then he change to the individual.
